This evening, my Zoe picked up our wedding vows, squeezed in between us, and began to read them aloud. So when David looked up at me and said, “I never would have imagined when I wrote these my little girl would be cuddled up next to us, reading our words,” I totally started to tear up. Fortunately, the waterworks were abruptly stopped as I added, “And I never imagined our other little girl would be sitting on my head and licking my face.” I am grateful for the reminder of who we were (David’s vow: “I promise to sing to you, write you music, and recite you poetry. And to do none of these things well.” My vow: “I promise to laugh at your bad, BAD jokes when everyone else stares at you in utter confusion”), who we are (parents that take pride in face-licking), and the theme of laughter at the heart of our strange love story. I am also grateful for the vows that Zoe decided to write for us. “Mommy. I love you. You are the best people on the planet. Good luck! – 6 Year Old Zoe” “Daddy. I love you 1,000 million. We will have fun together. – 6 Year Old Zoe” Those are getting framed, as I figure those vows will come in handy during the teenage years.
perfect, maybe Mia the face licker should meet my Aksel the ear lobe mouther… just saying. i guess they both just need alittle more oral sensory input right now… they will grow out of it, right? right. RIGHT?!
